Professor Ahmed Hazem Helmy is a graduate of Ain Shames University Faculty of Medicine Cairo Egypt 1982. In Cairo he started his career in Surgery at TBRI and succeed in obtaining his MSc in General Surgery 1987. He travelled to Leeds UK in 1990 after which he completed both basic higher surgical training and his fellowship FRCS (Ed) in 1995. He worked as a Consultant Surgeon in both the UK in 1997 and in Egypt in 2001. He was then appointed as Professor of General surgery in 2006 and later promoted to Head of General Surgery Department for two successive terms at TBRI, from 2007 till 2010 and from 2010 till 2013. At present he is a Professor of General, HPB and Transplantation Surgery.
Throughout his career he has drawn upon the skills acquired in a long tenure of learning in the UK & Egypt. He gained experience in Management, Audit, Administration and Clinical / Surgical practices as well as teaching under-graduate and post-graduate levels both inside and outside TBRI. He gained this rich and variegated experience working as a team member as well as a team leader.
He is a member of several professional associations in the surgical discipline and he is also a referee in health research projects for different local, national and international bodies.
