Dr. Mahmoud Afifi is Professor in Ophthalmology at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology since July 2003, and Head of Refractive Unit since October 2010. He is a Member of American and European Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS and ESCRS), Egyptian Ophthalmological Society (EOS), and Egyptian Society of Glaucomas (ESG). Dr. Afifi is a regular attendant and presenter in annual ESCRS meetings. He has vast experience supported with international presentations in updated cataract microsurgeries with implantation of the latest intraocular lens (IOL) technology like acrylic, aspheric, toric and multifocal IOLs (premium IOLs), to make cataractous astigmatic patients see after operations, without glasses for both distance and near. He is experienced in IOL implantations in complicated cases like diabetics, narrow pupils, traumatic eyes, cataractous prostatic patients and pediatric cataracts. Dr. Mahmoud Afifi is also specialized in refractive surgeries such as LASIK, PRK for suspicious corneas, special (Phakic IOLs) for highly myopic patients, treating Keratoconus providing most the updated technology of intracorneal rings (ICRS), corneal cross linking (CXL), toric IOLs, and updated corneal penetrating and lamellar keratoplasty minimizing postoperative medication and incidence of rejection.
